Last week, Revelstoke Museum and Archives curator Cathy English was touring Victoria's Government Street for a visit to Rogers' Chocolates and a stop across the road at Murchie's Tea & Coffee for its signature "coronation blend" sachets.

She probably couldn't have picked a better brew, because that Wednesday, Feb. 19, was also the day she received one of 10 King Charles III Coronation Medals awarded at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

The highly-revered medal, administered by the Governor General's Chancellery of Honours in Ottawa and presented to English as part of the Canadian Museums Association (CMA)'s 2025 Museum Studies Symposium, recognizes outstanding individual contributions to Canadian society, and in this case to its museum community.

"Cathy is a pillar of the heritage community, who has dedicated her career to preserving Revelstoke's history," Revelstoke Museum and Archives wrote on Facebook.

A grand 30,000 medals have been distributed since King Charles III's May 2023 coronation, with the CMA awarding 30 and president Janis Bomberry decorating English with hers last week.

English, accompanied on the celebratory trip by her husband Ken, used her spare time to visit not just her favourite Victoria tea and chocolate stores, but Munro's Books and the Royal BC Museum.

"It was certainly exciting to be in Victoria to receive the award," she said by email.
