A man is facing several charges after Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a woman who鈥檇 reported being attacked by an ex-boyfriend armed with a machete.

The report was received around 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, called in from the 6000 block of the Trans-Canada Highway NE.

According to police, the woman said she was being attacked by her ex-boyfriend, who had a machete on him, and was able to escape.

Responding officers met with resistance from the man who refused to exit the residence and follow police directions, commented Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release.

鈥淭he man was believed to be armed, threatening suicide by police, and had barricaded himself inside the residence,鈥 said Hodges, adding the emergency response team was deployed and, around 11 a.m., was able to assist in 鈥渁rresting the man safely.鈥

The man was held for a bail hearing, with police obtaining charge approval for one count of assault, one for uttering threats and one for failing to comply with release order. The man was remanded until May 21.
