Salmon Arm officers witnessed a vehicle matching the description travelling at a high rate of speed, and located the truck at a residence in the 400 block of 27th Street SE.

Original story

A Salmon Arm school is under hold and secure as RCMP 鈥渄eal with a situation鈥 in a nearby neighbourhood.

On Thursday morning, April 4, Shuswap Middle School principal Scott Anderson issued a notice to parents/guardians stating that around 8:30 a.m., RCMP directed the school to go into hold and secure as a precautionary measure, while police deal with a situation in proximity of the school grounds.

鈥淎s part of our Hold and Secure protocol, students and staff who were outdoors were brought inside and all exterior doors are locked so no one could enter or exit the building. Staff and students are safe,鈥 said Anderson.

During a hold and secure, exterior doors of the school are secured while normal activities continue inside.

鈥淭here is no immediate threat to students or staff,鈥 said Anderson.

Before 8:30 a.m., several police cruisers were situated off of Okanagan Avenue on 27th Street SE.

The Observer has contacted the RCMP and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Anderson said parents/guardians will be notified when the hold and secure is released.

鈥淲e will always take whatever precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff,鈥 said Anderson. 鈥淎s always, please call me at the school if you have questions or concerns.鈥
