The occupants in a vehicle rollover were taken for assessment after their truck crashed on Chopaka Road on Sept. 25.

Two people were taken for assessment and treatment after their pickup truck rolled over near Chopaka south of Keremeos on Sept. 25.

The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services responded to the call just after 1 p.m. in 200 block of Chopaka road.

The truck had left the road, damaging a culvert and a private fence before it came to a halt.

Members of the local community, including a School District 53 bus driver, jumped into action to assist the two occupants of the truck while first responders were called.

The Lower Similkameen Indian Band thanked the fire department for sending four members with first responder training to the scene and BC EHS for sending their paramedics.

One of the vehicle's occupants was taken to the Similkameen Health Centre by private vehicle for assessment, and the other was transported to the Penticton Regional Hospital.

It is not currently known the extent of any injuries they may have suffered.

The Indigenous Police Service constable attached to the LSIB has taken over the investigation.

"The Lower Similkameen Indian Band would (again) like to thank our neighbours with the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department, BC EHS Keremeos paramedics, the RCMP Keremeos detachment assistant and our I.P.S. constable," the LSIB said in a press release. "When needed, they respond to assist us, and we are grateful for this. We also want to thank those who stopped and helped the injured. This entire paragraph is the definition of 'community'."
