Chase RCMP responded to two assaults in as many weeks, with one involving a weapon.
At 9:18 p.m. on May 5, the detachment was advised of a disturbance at a commercial establishment in Celista, with the caller saying they thought someone had been bear sprayed.
“Police spoke with another witness who said there was an argument between an older male customer and two younger men,” Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said in a media release. “The two younger men left briefly, then returned and bear sprayed the older man.”
All three were believed to be local but have not been identified.
The second incident occurred on May 16. around 7:49 p.m. when police received report of an assault at a commercial address on Shuswap Avenue in Chase.
“The victim and witness explained that they were doing inventory at a local business when a large, shirtless male came out from behind the building and started yelling and swearing a them,” Van Wilgenburg said. “The male was carrying a blunt instrument which he used to strike the victim.”
The two were able to escape and go to the RCMP station where officers took their statements and photos of the injuries. Police have identified a suspect and is continuing to investigate. Anyone who has information about the assault is asked to contact the Chase detachment at 250-679-3221.
