Just over a year after his death, a suspect has been arrested and charged for the murder of Sicamous resident Wayne Sirvio.
On Aug. 16, after a year of intensive investigation by the Southeast District Major Crime Unit (MCU), Sicamous resident Danny Anthony Sirvio, 57, has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of his uncle, Wayne Sirvio, last August.
His homicide was the first of three to have occurred in community over the past year, and the second to result in charges.
"The successful resolution to this investigation can only be attributed to the effective coordination between multiple RCMP units," MCU Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said in an Aug. 17 media release. "We hope that the arrest and charge of Danny Sirvio brings a sense of relief to the community of Sicamous and the surrounding area."
The victim was first reported as missing on Aug. 2, 2023, with Sicamous RCMP investigating his whereabouts until new information indicated that his disappearance was the result of foul play and the MCU took over the case. On Aug. 5, they executed a search warrant at a local residence where a body was located and confirmed that it was then a murder investigation.
Sirvio remains in custody and, as the matter is currently before the courts, the RCMP will not be releasing any further information.
