The beloved structure has been at the park for 30 years, but it has to go due to safety concerns. The news was not well received by ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç residents, and overall fans of the park’s peaceful sea creature.

The ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç article was shared dozens times on Facebook in just a few hours, and readers comments ranging from heartfelt to disappointedflowed in.

Here are just a few:

Kurtis Vander Horst Codes and standards? I think that thing is the least of our concerns!

Do all the needles in the park meet standards and code !

Glenn Fawcett If it is not legal for a water park, could it work in a non-water park? I am thinking this would be a cool feature in a regular city park.

Dave McKenzie Most kids stay inside where it is safe so sad.

Shelley Zec For 29 years it’s been part of the Okanagan..more bureaucratic imbeciles destroying our history. People have truly dumbed up.

Dianna Wilson Whaa. Shame it’s part of history for the Okanagan.

Christie Ewen Wow doesn’t meet code, what about all the unaccessible buildings in ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç that don’t meet code.

Asia Lee Keep it and let natural selection do it’s thing…. just saying.

Peter Irvine We should also outlaw laughter at playgrounds because the noise might harm people’s ears.

Magda Formanova It was fine for so many years and now the rules change? Why? Are the kids more accident prone now then they were before?

The new park is still scheduled to open in time for the upcoming season.
