Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the South Okanagan on Friday morning, Aug. 16.

The federal forecaster says conditions are "favourable" for thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain.

Issued at 11 a.m. for communities across the region, including Penticton, Environment Canada said a chance of showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast through Saturday morning, Aug. 17.

"There is a heightened risk of debris flows over areas impacted by recent burn scars," its notice reads. "Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads."
