An Alberta man has been charged and his vehicle impounded for a week after he was stopped by the RCMP for speeding dangerously Saturday night.

A member with the RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit  May 28  at 6:20 p.m., was conducting a speed enforcement operation along Highway 97 in Lake Country when the officer stopped a white 2010 Audi R8.

"The officer had determined that the target vehicle had been travelling in excess of 210 km/hr in the posted 100 km/hr zone along Highway 97 near Pelmewash Parkway," said COnst. Jesse O'Donaghey, in a press release.

Weather and roadway conditions were not ideal at the time of the traffic stop, as it was raining lightly and the roads were wet.

鈥淩CMP would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to slow down, especially on wet roads and in bad weather conditions鈥 said O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淗igh-risk driving behaviours, like speeding, increase your chances of crashing and put yourself and others at risk of sustaining serious injury.鈥

The driver of the vehicle was charged under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speed.  He was served with a violation ticket for $483.00. His vehicle was towed from the roadway to be impounded for a period of seven days.
