Brendan Burge has been identified as the man who took a fatal fall from a fifth floor balcony of an Ellis Street condo.
Burge, a 24-year old originally from Salmon Arm, was a father as well as a former junior hockey player who played both in B.C. and abroad.
As news of his death circulated through the social media sites tributes from friends and teammates highlighting his time on and off the ice poured in.
鈥淲e as an organization are so deeply affected by the passing of this young man and would like to pass on our condolences to his family, his beautiful daughter 鈥 and his hockey family that spans far and wide,鈥 read a statement from the Columbia Valley Rockies.
鈥淏rendan was only with us for one season before finishing Junior, and moving on to play In Germany; but his presence made a huge impact on the ice and in the dressing room. Brendan came to the Rockies from Fernie and showed tremendous character and growth during his time as a Rockie.鈥
Others commented on his kindness, sense of humour and he was remembered for being a good father.
琉璃神社 RCMP have said there does not appear to be anything suspicious about his death, March 17 at 10:12 p.m..
Investigators have confirmed that a lone male fell from a balcony onto the buildings protruding second floor balcony.
鈥淚nvestigators interviewed several witnesses at the scene,鈥 said Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey, in a statement. 鈥淎t this time, police do not believe that foul play is involved in the man鈥檚 death. As such the investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service.鈥
