Summer events are on the move to Main Street in Sicamous this year.
A number of changes are in the works, with the first being the newly dubbed Canada Day Block Party that will move from the Beach Park, where access is limited by construction on the Bruhn Bridge, to the west end of Main Street by the old roundabout.
鈥淎nd this is what the community wants, they want the vibrancy downtown, we want to bring these people downtown, we want to pump them through the businesses, pump them through the restaurants," recreation manager Jamie Sherlock said. "So this is what we鈥檙e going to do again for this year.鈥
With that move, the district is also bringing back the beloved Canada Day Road Hockey Tournament that, since being cancelled, 鈥渆verybody has been asking for it to come back.鈥 As part of that, Sherlock is looking for referees, which will be paid for helping.
The day will also include the usual live music, games, bounce houses and beverage gardens, all on the end of the street past the Narrows Smokehouse where no businesses will be disrupted by the closure and crowds.
Also on the move to Main are the two cars shows that take place on June 29 and July 27 in Finlayson Park, so as not to undo the recent repair work done on the ball diamonds there but 鈥渁gain, being very cognizant of working with our businesses.鈥
鈥淲e want to make sure it鈥檚 a success, again not only for the local car show but not hampering our local businesses,鈥 Sherlock added.
So, while Main Street will be closed, Paradise, Shuswap and Riverside avenues will remain open with traffic control at those locations to direct people to businesses and designated parking areas.
The one other location change will be Music in the Park, which will move from the Beach Park to Finlayson Park. Sherlock added it will remain there 鈥減robably for the duration of the bridge construction.鈥
