A suspect has been identified in an alleged attempted child abduction from this summer.
In late August, the Summerland RCMP detachment asked for the public鈥檚 assistance in identifying a suspect in the alleged child abduction attempt at Dale Meadows Park.
On Oct. 18, police announced that they have identified the individual believed responsible for the incident.
鈥淭he suspect, described in the initial report, has been located, and police can reassure the community that the individual is not considered a threat to public safety,鈥 said Cpl. James Grandy of the B.C. RCMP.
The alleged attempt, on Aug. 27, occurred before 3:30 p.m. when a man approached a girl and asked her to leave with him. The girl declined and the suspect left as the child鈥檚 mother approached.
The RCMP report at the time described the suspect as an older Caucasian man, possibly in his 60s, with long and straggly white hear. He was driving a newer red hatchback at the time.
Grandy said the RCMP appreciate the community鈥檚 patience and support during the investigation.
