Failure to appear at a scheduled court date led to a Salmon Arm man adding assault to his rap sheet.
On March 28, Salmon Arm RCMP attended a residence to arrest a man on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court. When they arrived, the man allegedly confronted the officers with a sword.
鈥淭he suspect was disarmed by officers, taken into custody and transported to cells,鈥 Cpl. James Grandy of the Southeast District said in an April 5 media release. 鈥淎s a result of the incident, Salmon Arm RCMP submitted a report to BC Prosecution Services recommending new charges.鈥
The following day, March 29, 28-year-old Connor James Delaney was charged with assaulting a peace officer with intent to resist arrest, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
鈥淒elaney was held in custody over the weekend to be brought before the courts,鈥 Grandy added. 鈥淥n April 3, he was released back into the community on court-imposed conditions.鈥
His next court appearance is April 9.
