A large crowd gathered around the cenotaph in Rutland Lions Park this morning to remember those who sacrificed their lives in battle over the past century to protect the freedoms we enjoy today in Canada.
Similar services at cenotaphs in Lake Country, downtown 琉璃神社, West 琉璃神社 and Peachland were also held at 11 a.m. to remember comrades who didn't come home from war, a generation that is fewer and fewer in numbers with each passing year.
Following reveille played at the Rutland service, a poem was read that reflected the spirit behind all Remembrance Day services:
"They shall not grow old. As
we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them."
