Telescope observing featured at astronomical meeting in Penticton

The Penticton meeting group of the Okanagan Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will feature hands-on telescope set-up and observing.

The meeting, on March 20, beginning at 7:15 p.m., be held in Room C02 of the Sunoka Building at the Penticton campus of Okanagan College.

It will begin with a follow-up Now Observers to Visual Astronomy session, led by Colleen O鈥橦are, the organization鈥檚 outreach director.

The session will explore using one鈥檚 hands to measure the sky and navigating with Orion.

If the weather is favourable, participants will then move outside where telescopes can be set up to view brighter sky objects. Picnic tables and washrooms are nearby. If the weather is bad, telescopes will be set up at the Okanagan College Community Hall.

March 20 also marks the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
