Sicamous RCMP are investigating after a man tried and failed to make a large cash withdrawal, in the form of the whole ATM, from a local business.
At 3:30 a.m. on May 22, a lone man gained access to the Shell gas station after breaking the glass of the front door and attempted unsuccessfully to dislodge the ATM. Surveillance footage showed him wearing a mask, gloves and hoodie, and driving a Ford F350 truck registered to a business in Salmon Arm.
The local detachment contacted the Salmon Arm RCMP, who confirmed the truck had recently been stolen from the business after its fenced yard was broken into.
鈥淭he man fled in the stolen truck, which was recovered later that morning abandoned in Salmon Arm,鈥 Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release. 鈥淭he man was in the store for a matter of minutes and he fled without stealing the ATM or any product.鈥
Police are continuing to investigate the attempted theft and ask anyone with information on the identity of the man responsible to contact the detachment at 250-836-2878 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
