Traffic is moving in one lane each direction on Highway 97 north of Penticton as AIM Roads works on a portion of the highway.

Highway 97 is down to one lane of traffic in either direction just outside Penticton due to heavy road work, which is slowing traffic in the area.

AIM Roads crews began the construction work on March 17 and the traffic disruption is expected to continue until April 4.

According to DriveBC, the maintenance work is between Wharf Street in Summerland and Burnaby Avenue West near Penticton, for a distance of 3.4 kilometres.

The rest areas on both sides of the highway are closed during this project.

The work is in the area of the pump station north of Penticton, for the Sage Mesa water system.

The lane closures are in effect 24 hours a day during the project, and reduced speed signs are in place.

Motorists are being warned to be prepared to make sudden stops and to watch for traffic control personnel.
