A photo taken yesterday on Big White shows just how much snow is still left on our mountains.
Big White Ski Resort’s summer season is set to kick off June 23 and yet there is still a whole bunch of snow to deal with – 200 centimetres to be exact.
Natalia Jastrzab with Big White says the levels of snow is variable throughout the mountain but their millwrights report it is still up to two metres deep in some areas.
She notes that the mountain is still set to open on time, but there may be limited hiking trails while we all wait for Mother Nature to cooperate.
As of June 23, Big White will offer scenic chairlift rides, and as much hiking as possible.
Higher-than-average snowpack levels combined with weather created a perfect storm this year that has led to mudslides, flooding and record-breaking lake levels.
