Apex Mountain Resort has closed the skating loop due to warmer temperatures.

鈥淧lease stay off the loop as it will make it harder for us to rebuild it when it freezes later this week,鈥 said Apex Mountain general manager James Shalman.

The opening of the popular skating loop was delayed this season because of warmer temperatures in December but eventually opened on Jan. 3.

Described by the resort as a 鈥渕agical experience,鈥 the one-kilometer loop is maintained by a Zamboni and lit up every evening, leading skaters through a tree-lined ice path.

SilverStar ski hill had to close a couple of runs this weekend because of warmer temperatures.

It鈥檚 been an unusual ski season with a delayed opening due to unseasonably warm temperatures in B.C. and then bitter cold temperatures closing a couple of mountains including Apex over a weekend in January.
