UPDATED: Wildfire spotted between Peachland and Summerland

According to fire information officer Justine Hunse, the Garnet Valley fire is 0.2 hectares in size and is located approximately three kilometres west of Hwy 97.

Three firefighters and two air tankers are currently responding to the fire.

The nearest structure is located within one km of the blaze, but is not threatened at this time, said Hunse.

Smoke has been sighted hovering over Peachland, Saturday afternoon.

According to Peachland Fire Chief Dennis Craig, the fire department has turned over their services to the B.C. Wildfire Services.

Five minutes ago, at approximately 3:40 p.m., he witnessed an air tanker fly overhead.

Craig said the fire is located in Garnet Valley, between Peachland and Summerland.
