Allan was born in Winfield, BC, in 1924, at his family鈥檚 home on Lodge Road that still stands today. He was raised and lived in the Ellison area until 1980, when his eldest son, Allan, took over the 5th generation Ellison farm. At that time, he relocated to his property in Lake Country, which became his family鈥檚 homestead, known as the Woodsdale Ranch. Originally, this property had been pre-empted by his great uncle, Thomas Wood (Wood Lake), in 1871. Along side his father, Allan worked the farm, trained horses, and drove cattle throughout the Okanagan. In 1950, he married Ella Anderson and together horse and cattle ranching was
their life. Whether it be stepping on a colt or riding the range, Allan was in his comfort zone. He enjoyed the sport and competition of roping, cutting, reining, and gymkhanas. Allan had many business ventures; he owned several ranches and properties throughout the Okanagan, including the Beaver Lake Fishing Resort where he built the existing log lodge. He was a very ambitious person, who lived life to the fullest. Allan cherished his family,
who will greatly miss him.
