NUTZ, Anneke (Ann) (nee Nederveen)
September 5, 1937 – January 20. 2017
Ann passed away on Friday evening in Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Ann had a remarkable life. She was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, one of five children of John and Jenny Nederveen, who had survived very difficult times during WWII. Her family immigrated to Canada on the ship, Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt on August 1, 1954 and settled in Medicine Hat, Alta. Mom was the first to find work to help support her family, calling forth strong sufficiency and grace – the values that would characterize
Mom’s entire life. Her caring and patient nature led her down many paths. She was a volunteer with the ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Hostesses since 1998. She was always active whether biking, skiing, playing tennis, line-dancing, hiking with friends, travelling down south with their 5th wheel and most recently pickle ball and competitive ping pong. Ann never went out into the public without a smile on her face. Her kind and soft-spoken manner attracted many wonderful friends over her 79 years.
She is predeceased by Michael (December 9, 2016), her husband of 58 years. Survived by their two children, Karen (Jeff) Austin of ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç and their two children Jenn (Sara) son Finn, Julie (Sean), Michelle (Ron) Baart of Victoria and their three children Amanda (Derek), Sydney (Tyler), Michael (Ali). We wish to thank Dr. Wickstrom, Dr. Clarke, and palliative nurse, Deanna Hammer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. January 28, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2091 Gordon Drive, followed by a Celebration of Life. Donations can be made towards research for gastric cancer through the Canadian Cancer Society.
