BLACK, Ellen Alzena
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ellen Alzena Black (nee Ritchie) on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 86. Ellen was born in ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç, BC to Rae and Ruby Ritchie. She travelled to the UK in her youth, returning to Scotland for training as an RN. She practised nursing at both ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç General Hospital and Cottonwoods Extended Care for many years before retiring in 1992 due to heart
by-pass surgery. Ellen was a dedicated nurse and loving mother, well known for her quick wit and sharp mind.
She was a champion debater and loved talking politics.
She was also an avid gardener, and always had a large vegetable garden along with her fruit trees and flowers to tend. Bright and intelligent, she was a loyal friend and always championed the underdog. ‘Nel’, as she was affectionately called by close friends and family, will be sadly missed by brothers, John and David (Gloria), sister; Margaret (Don); son, Murray (Sandra); daughters, Tracy and Julie (Thomas), grand-children Robert and Aleisha, as well as nephews, nieces and friends. Ellen was pre-deceased by brothers William and Ken. No service by request.
