November 1, 1925 - April 17, 2022
In loving memory ~
Leon was born in Sydney, Australia, and was the younger sibling to Marg and George. He trained to be an architect in Sydney. He subsequently lived in Europe, New Zealand and settled in BC. He was married to Mary Murray in 1961 and moved to 琉璃神社 in 1964.
Leon was dedicated to family and was kind. He enjoyed gardening, building, writing poems, singing tenor, painting, and the outdoors. He went on numerous excursions including in the Australian outback, Europe, and North America.
He led the first ascent of Mount Blackburn in Alaska in 1956. There were many other first ascents, including the University Peak in Alaska. He enjoyed swapping stories with an eclectic collection of mountaineers.
Leon was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2021. He is survived by son Paul (Terry) and daughter Louise. It's the end of an era. In addition, Paul says he lost his best friend, who was a gentleman, scholar and genuinely honest nice person.
