Lorna Marion Hudson
1923 – 2017
With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Lorna Marion Hudson on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in West ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç after a short illness.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary (Min), Loren and Dyan, her daughter-in-law for 45 years, Danny (Kathy), nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Lorna was predeceased by her husband, Roy (1972), her daughter-in-law, Judy (2010) and her grandson, Neil in 2016.
Lorna was born in the small community of Amisk, Alberta and attended high school in the Strathcona area near Edmonton. Even as a young girl, Lorna knew that she wanted to be a teacher, and she attributed that desire to the impact her Grade 1 teacher, Miss Kline, had on her. After receiving her teaching certificate in Edmonton, Lorna taught school at Saddle Mountain, near Woking, Alberta in 1943.This first teaching position was an one room country school having Grades 1-9 with 42 students. She soon met her future husband, Roy, was married in 1944 and moved to the Town of Spirit River in 1945 where they had their three boys. Lorna continued to teach while raising the family. She taught in Vanderhoof, Prince George, and finished her career in Abbotsford. While raising a family and a holding down a successful teaching career, she continued to improve her own education, eventually finishing her Degree in Education. Most of her teaching years in Prince George and Abbotsford were in the role of a teaching Librarian.
Lorna retired in 1988 and subsequently moved to beautiful ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç, and then more recently to West ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç where she was even closer to Loren and Dyan, both of whom provided Lorna with an abundance of love and support, particularly during the past few years of her life.
Lorna was an avid reader, and loved to travel, which she did extensively. Lorna had a huge impact on those around her throughout her life. She cared for her students immensely, and she made many lifelong friends. Most of all, she was extremely proud of her family, particularly her grand children. She watched them admiringly for years as they all reached adulthood and carried on with their own lives sharing the values that all had learned from their Grandmother. Lorna was so happy when her great grandchildren arrived.
Lorna will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and loved by her family and many friends forever.
The family wishes to pay special thanks to the wonderful staff of both ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç General Hospital and the Brookhaven Care Centre who cared for Lorna with professional skill and compassion. The family also wants to pay tribute to the caring staff of The Heritage who helped Lorna live independently during the time she resided there.
No service is being held as was Lorna’s wish. A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
