In Loving Memory ~
The Melnichuk family is deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Mike Melnichuk on March 15, 2024. Mike was a devoted father, loving husband, cherished grandfather, dutiful son, and dear brother.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Priscilla, his adoring daughters Janice (Dave) Walters and Kathy (Rik) Blok, his son Norm (Tasha) Melnichuk, and his beloved granddaughter Sarah Walters.
Born in 琉璃神社 in 1944 to Makar and Mary Melnichuk, Mike spent his entire life in Ellison, where he discovered his passion for apple farming at the young age of 16. Working alongside his father in the vibrant farming community, he cultivated a deep connection to the land and the people of Ellison.
Over the span of 57 years, Mike dedicated himself to nurturing and expanding the family business in the Okanagan apple industry, becoming a cornerstone of the Ellison community.
His commitment extended beyond farming, as he also served as a member of the Ellison Volunteer Fire Department for seven years, embodying his dedication to the safety and well-being of his neighbors.
Although Mike officially retired at the age of 73, his love for the orchard never waned, and he could often be found amongst his trees, tending to them with the same care and dedication as always.
Mike's legacy extends far beyond his professional accomplishments; he leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a profound connection to his roots in Ellison. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Diagnosed with a sudden, rare, aggressive cancer, Mike passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the KGH Foundation.
