Nicholas (Nick) Gerelus, age 89 passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016, at Mountainview Village in 琉璃神社, BC with his loving family at his side.  Nick鈥檚 life will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 66 years Muriel, his children Larry (Linda), Robert (Gail) and Judy (Barry) Derco all of British Columbia; his sisters Phyllis (Jack) Mclauchlan, Lena (Bill) Streilein and brother Joe (Nellie) all of Winnipeg; grandchildren Geoff, Kristen and Tyler Gerelus, Jonathan and Jennifer Derco; 3 great granddaughters as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Nick is predeceased by his parents Michael and Anne (Manulak) Gerelus, his brothers John, Bill, Peter, Steve, Alex, Frank, Fred, Maurice, and sisters Chris, Mary, Kay and Rose.

 

Nick was born in Oakburn, Manitoba and spent his early childhood on the family farm. Nick passed on his love of the outdoors to his children, with many memorable fishing trips spent with his sons. Nick鈥檚 early career followed different paths, one playing drums in a band in Winnipeg. Nick worked for CPR for 37 years. Nick enjoyed his leisure time gardening and taking on projects using his handyman skills in carpentry, automotive, plumbing and electrical work to help family and friends. Family gatherings with Nick鈥檚 brothers and sisters and their families were precious occasions.    

 

Nick鈥檚 family are grateful for the wonderful care he received from Dr. Michael Bobyn. Nick鈥檚 family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Mountainview Village in 琉璃神社.

 

Funeral service to be held at a later date in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer Society British Columbia www.alzheimer.ca/bc/ or the charity of choice.
