In Loving Memory ~
Peter E. Ewert passed away peacefully, with family at his side, at Mission Hospital on January 9, 2022, at age 95.
Peter was predeceased by his first wife Helen (nee Janzen) almost exactly 31 years ago; and his second wife Viola (nee Gifford) four years ago.
He is survived by three daughters: Bev (Erv Froese), Karen (Frank Klassen) and Val (Les Klassen) along with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and stepson Alan (and Gloria) Gifford, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Peter was born in August 1926 in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan to Isaak and Sarah, who fled Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution in 1924. His parents and siblings (Agatha, Anne, Abe, Ike, Aron and Kay - all predeceased) moved to Yarrow in 1928.
After he met and married Helen, they settled in Hatzic where he created one of the area's first subdivisions and built his own home of 66 years on Ewert Avenue.
Peter received his BSc in Agriculture from UBC, serving 30 years as a distinguished agriculturist in the Fraser Valley. He was influential in the formation of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).
He also served as President of the BC Christmas Tree Growers Council, helping develop a thriving province-wide network of now 450 tree farms growing this seasonal crop.
As a devout Christian, Peter was involved in building two churches in Mission over his lifetime. He believed strongly in Jesus and lived Biblical principles daily until the end.
Our family thanks the caring staff at Carrington House and the fine medical staff at Mission Hospital for their kindness and care of Peter.
Celebration of Life will be held at Parkside Church, 33837 Prentis Ave, Mission at 1 pm on Saturday, Jan. 29. (Covid protocols will be in place for attendees - the service will be live-streamed for any family and friends unable to attend in person).
