RYLL: RUDOLF (RUDY) LAWRENCE, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 30th, 2017, in 琉璃神社, B.C. Rudy was born in Josefine, Poland, on September 28, 1926. He immigrated to Canada with his family on June 8th, 1930, and then he settled and was raised on a farm near Mayerthorpe, Alberta. Rudy finished his schooling at Concordia College in Edmonton, before joining the Army in 1944. After WWII, he completed his mechanics course in Red Deer, Alberta. Upon graduation, he worked as a mechanic with the Armed Forces until 1948 in Whitehorse, Yukon, and Fort Nelson, B.C.. On June 12, 1950, Rudy married Doris and they lived in Camrose, Alberta. From there, Rudy worked as a heavy duty mechanic in the oil field throughout Alberta, settling in Calgary in 1957 and moving to Edmonton in 1966. In 1979, Rudy and Doris entered the hospitality industry in Port Alberni, B.C., and in 1980, moved to 琉璃神社, B.C., where they owned and ran the La Mission Motor Inn until retiring in 1988. From his early years, Rudy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, curling, socializing, dancing, and family outings and get togethers. In his retirement, he expanded his interests to golfing and extensively travelling and cruising around the world. Rudy will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Doris, his wife of 67 years, his daughter Colleen (Bruce) Basaraba, his son Bob (Barb) Ryll, his daughter Lorraine (Don) Henshall, his granddaughters Michelle (Colin) Duffy and Lindsay (Derek) Young, and his great-grandchildren Quinn, Morgan, Cyrus, Cian, and Kaylee, as well as sister Eda Potruff and sister-in-laws Evelyn Ryll and Lil Neuman, and many nieces and nephews. Rudy was pre-deceased by his daughter Carolyn (1953), his parents Kamilia and Gottlieb, his sisters Alvina, Olga and Rozalia, and his brothers John and Edmund. A Memorial Service will be held at First Memorial, 1211 Sutherland Ave., 琉璃神社, B.C. on April 13th, 2017, at 10:00 AM.
