August 4, 1938 - August 19, 2022
In loving memory ~
SAUNDERS: Sarah Carol Lee passed away peacefully in Vernon, BC on the morning of August 19, 2022, at the age of 84 years, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sarah was born on August 4, 1938 at Bellevue Hospital in New York. She grew up with her maternal grandparents (Cameron) in Windsor, Ontario, and moved to Vancouver, BC in her late teens. As a loving, strong, determined woman, she raised her two daughters from her first marriage (Sabrina and Julie Eckschmiedt) on her own, and excelled as a bodily injury adjuster at ICBC for over 25 years.
Later in life, she met her beloved husband Bob at Camp Sunrise. She instantly knew he was "the one" and they married a few months later. She moved to join him in West 琉璃神社, where they enjoyed 25 happy years together. During her retirement, many of her favourite times were spent at their cabin on Lake Okanagan, where she created lifelong memories with family, friends, and their dearly loved golden retriever Max.
When not at the cabin, she was busy volunteering, playing the piano, and helping others through her local Salvation Army Community Church. Sarah's zest for life, kind, loving spirit, hospitality and genuine love and care for others will be remembered by all who knew her.
Sarah is survived by her beloved husband John Robert Saunders ("Bob"), her children Sabrina Henwood (John), Julie Cooper, Rob Saunders, Kelly Saunders, Lori Robinson (Wes), Carolyn Saunders, Maureen Johnston (Darren), along with 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Salvation Army 琉璃神社 Community Church, 1480 Sutherland Ave. First Memorial Funeral Services will be live streaming and recording the service for those unable to attend (accessible at www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com and click on Sarah's obituary ).
Sarah loved flowers, especially her roses, and often gave them as expressions of love to family and friends. Any flowers brought to the Celebration of Life will be donated to the residents of a retirement facility, to brighten their lives in her honour, in the same way she so often did for others.
