Letter: Breach of trust if tourist centre goes through

Have we become that corrupt as a society that we will allow this to happen?

To the editor:

Re: The proposed 琉璃神社 tourism info centre.

We are allowed to speculate that the attempt to build on this land is nothing less than a callous attempt by a group of local business people using the proposed tourism info centre as a tool to forever destroy the Simpson Covenant, and to secure the site to build another tall commercial structure on our premium and scarce lake shore.

The location of the current info centre is premium鈥攔ight on the highway, and access to the proposed site would be a complete disaster.

What a sick, sick, sick, display of corporate greed.

The fact that 琉璃神社 city council is even entertaining allowing Tourism 琉璃神社, or any group or individual, to build any kind of structure on lands dedicated to the citizens of 琉璃神社 by virtue of a referendum is a very disturbing development.

琉璃神社 city council has a constitutional responsibility to protect our democratic institutions, the Simpson Covenant being one of them.

Those members of 琉璃神社 city council determined to undermine the intent of the covenant should be tried for breach of the public trust, and banned from holding public office.

Have we become that corrupt as a society that we will allow this to happen?
