To the editor:
Oh Canada. Land of frozen fingers and toes, welcoming refugees into a country that prides Canadian values, tolerance and generosity.
While Trump builds a wall to keep refugees and immigrants out, I suggest that Trudeau put up a Tim Horton鈥檚 Restaurant at the Canadian border where refugees cross. Places like Emerson, Manitoba and Quebec. It would be a welcome refuge for very desperate people and the RCMP (who love coffee and doughnuts) could escort the refugees to start their refugee status in Canada.
What a great way to celebrate 150 years of confederation, eh, Canada?
It鈥檚 2017: The Year of the Rooster crowing. Oh鈥anada. It鈥檚 been 400 years since the arrival of white settlers, spreading untold misery and destruction across the land. It鈥檚 been 175 years since colonialism arrived on the shores of Vancouver Island, and 75 years since the uprooting of 21,000 Japanese-Canadians from the coast.
Oh 鈥 Canada: The land of broken promises and colonial oppression, proudly flying the red and white maple leaf over our native land 鈥 not so free.
Oh 鈥 Canada: The times are-a-changing. The winds of decolonalization blow strong across Turtle Island. It鈥檚 time to restore indigenous sovereignty. Eh Canada?
O Canada: Let the light of compassion and empathy that is glowing in our hearts ignite the passion for songs and stories of justice, peace and love.
