A鈥檚 drop three to Mariners, battle to stay in playoff hunt

Okanagan sits 3 1/2 games out of a Premier Baseball League postseason berth with 14 games left

Wins haven鈥檛 been easy to come by for the Okanagan Athletics this season, but with 14 games remaining the B.C. Premier Baseball League club isn鈥檛 yet out of contention for a playoff spot.

The A鈥檚 (8-22) currently sit 3 1/2 games back of the eighth-place Coquitlam Reds who occupy the final post season berth. The two teams will meet head on for four games to close out the regular season in 琉璃神社 next month.

One challenge facing Evan Bailey鈥檚 club is having to play 10 of those last 14 contests on the road.

This weekend, Okanagan heads to Nanaimo to take on the Mid Island Pirates (9-20) in a four-game series.

The A鈥檚 just returned from the island where they dropped three of four games to the Victoria Mariners.

Victoria opened up with a 16-7 win, scoring nine times in ther seventh inning. Adam Sarafinchin paced the A鈥檚 offense with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

In Game 2, Okanagan rebounded with a 10-4 win. Sarafinchin again led the offense with a two hits and four RBIs, while Marcus Stother had two hits and two RBIs. Keaton Mandryk went six innings on the hill for his second win.

On Sunday, the Mariners took both games, 6-0 and 7-4. In the series finale, Colton Schaper-Kotter had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The A鈥檚 will play their next 10 games on the road, before returing to Elks Stadium July 8 and 11 to close out the season against the Reds.
