With 76 teams competing, the Okanagan's largest volleyball event of the high school season tipped off on Thursday morning.

Hosted by the KSS Owls, the annual Best of the West girls and boys senior tourneys will be contested at KSS, OKM, Mt. Boucherie, Constable Neil Bruce, KCS, George Elliot, Immaculata, KLO and RSS.

Owls 5th at Ogopogo…

The KSS Owls had the best final result for local schools, tying for fifth place overall last weekend at the annual UBC Okanagan Heat/Ogopogo senior girls volleyball tournament.

The Owls, who compete at the 4A level, defeated Valleyview (25-22, 25-12) on Saturday 2-0 to close out the 44-team event.

KSS finished third in pool play with a 1-2 record, then opened the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Prince George.

In the quarterfinals, the Owls lost to the Handsworth Royals in three sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-18).

The ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Christian Knights and George Elliot Coyotes both reached the round of 16, but were eliminated in their first matches by the eventual champion MEI Eagles and WL Seaton, respectively.

KCS then defeated George Elliot 2-1 (22-25, 25-9, 15-11) to finish in a tie for 13th.

The Coyotes and Immaculata Mustangs tied for 15th in the gold division.

OKM and Mt. Boucherie tied for ninth in the blue division, while was 13th.
