Tied 1-1 after 20 minutes, the Winterhawks broke the game open with three unanswered goals in the second period.
Calvin Thurkauf scored both ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç goals, while linemate Reid Gardiner had a pair of assists.
Michael Herringer stopped 26 shots in the Rockets net, while Cole Kehler made 28 saves for Portland.
Game 4 goes Wednesday night in Portland, with Game 5 set for Friday night at Prospera Place.
