Heat women unbeaten in preseason

The continued its run-up to the new Canada West season with two more exhibition victories, both on their home court.

Running in conjunction with the men's Heat Classic Invitational, Claire Meadows' squad moved to 7-0 with victories over MacEwan University and Quest University.

On Friday, the Heat defeated MacEwan 59-46, then beat the Kermodes on Saturday 73-53.

Fifth year guard Emily Kanester continues to lead the way for the Heat.

The Vernon product scored 25 points in the two games over the weekend. Kaneaster will enter her final season for UBC Okanagan chasing the title of the school's all-time scoring leader. Her 869 career points trails only school leader Roz Huber (2008-2013) who finished her five year career with 899 points.

Chloe Kennedy added 24 points over the two games, while Jordan scored 19.

With an unblemished record, the Heat will be looking to maintain their play this weekend in Toronto at the York University tournament.

The Heat will play York Friday, Laurier on Saturday and Memorial University on Sunday morning.

Heat Classic…

The didn't win a game but came away with some valuable pre-season experience at the first ever Heat Classic Invitational tournament.

The Heat hosted the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, the MacEwan Griffins, and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack for a total of five games over three days at the ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç campus gym.

Pete Guarasci's squad opened up on Friday night with a 68-56 loss to the Huskies.

On Saturday, the Heat were unable to find their rhythm in a 76-62 loss to the Griffins.

Aldrich Berrios set the pace against MacEwan with 18 points. Mitch Goodwin added 14 points while Spencer Thomas grabbed nine rebounds.

The Huskies finished the weekend with a 3-0 record, while MacEwan went 2-1 and TRU was 0-2.

This weekend, the Heat head to McGill University in Montreal for the Redbird Classic.

UBC Okanagan will play games Friday, Saturday and Sunday against McGill, McMaster and Laurentian.
