Young women interested in trying rugby or improving their skills in the sport will have a chance to learn from some of the best.
The UBC Thunderbirds will host a women's rugby camp in Vernon for players aged 13-18 Thursday and Friday, March 27 and 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at MacDonald Park (Seaton Secondary field).
The Thunderbirds are coming off a 2024-25 campaign that saw them win the U-Sports Canadian Women's University 15s title, and a third-straight Canada West 7s championship (15s means 15 players on the field, 7s is seven players a-side).
Former Seaton Sonics player Mya Koleba played on both teams in her freshman season with the T-Birds. She was named Canada West Conference Rookie of the Year in Rugby 15s, and was recently named to Team Canada Women's U20 15s team that will tour Ireland in May.
Koleba's younger sister Elyse, along with fellow Seaton Sonic Emery Britton, and Louisa Imolele of Salmon Arm, played for the B.C. Bears U18 Womens team at the Global Youth 7s Rugby Tournament in Auckland, N.Z. in December.
The cost of the Vernon camp is $60 and you can register for the camp at .
Registration deadline is 11:30 p.m. Monday, March 24.
