The Okanagan Rockets will have their hands full this weekend as they head to the Lower Mainland for the second round of the B.C. Major Midget League playoffs.

The Rockets will take on the regular season champion Valley West Hawks in a best-of-three semifinal series.

The Hawks finished atop the standings with a 33-6-1 record, while the Rockets were fourth at 23-12-5.

Valley West won all four matchups between the clubs during the regular season.

Still, after a first-round sweep of Fraser Valley, Rockets GM Braeden Pistawka said his team heads into the second round with some momentum.

Pistawka also expects the Rockets will have to play their best hockey of the season to move on.

"The Hawks are a very good team offensively, they have a lot of young talent up front and they try to outscore you," Pistawka said. "They also have a very good goaltender.

"We can't get into a shootout with them, we'll have to be disciplined and play a tight defensive style."

The Rockets made short work of the Thunderbirds in the quarterfinals last weekend, winning in two straight games.

On Friday, Zach Ehrhardt scored twice in a 5-2 win at CNC.

On Saturday, Lucas Cullen notched the game winner late in the third as the Rockets prevailed 3-2.
