It's the start of spring, meaning regular season hockey is starting to gear towards the end while baseball season is set to begin.
琉璃神社 Rockets
It's been a long season for the 琉璃神社 Rockets as their season comes to an end this weekend.
This season hasn't gone the way they had hoped, as the team had to make some hard decisions. Since Jan. 21, the Rockets lost 25 of their last 26 games and are currently riding a 10-game losing streak. They sit last in the WHL's Western Conference with a record of 17-43-4-2.
However this weekend, the team will look to right the ship to head into the 2025/26 season.
琉璃神社 closes out their home schedule in their penultimate game of the year on Saturday night (March 22) as they welcome the Kamloops Blazers (24-37-4-1) to Prospera Place. Puck drop is at 6:05 p.m.
The following night, the Rockets will finish the season in Langley against the Vancouver Giants (32-26-8-0), with a 4 p.m. puck drop.
West 琉璃神社 Warriors
It's a massive weekend for the West 琉璃神社 Warriors as they try to punch their ticket to the BCHL postseason.
Going into the weekend, the Warriors sit seventh in the BCHL's Interior Conference at 20-23-5-2, just two points ahead of the Okotoks Oilers (21-26-3-0), who they play on the road on Friday night (March 21).
The Warriors have collected five of a possible six points in three games against Okotoks this year, as they have two wins and an overtime loss. Even if West 琉璃神社 loses on regulation on Friday night, they would still hold the seventh spot for at least one more night. The next closest team in the standings is the Spruce Grove Saints, who are seven points behind West 琉璃神社 and five points behind Okotoks.
Puck drop is at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
On Saturday night, West 琉璃神社 finishes their mini two-game Alberta road trip as they take on the Blackfalds Bulldogs (13-35-2-0), who sit last in the Interior Conference. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
Okanagan College Baseball
Spring has sprung which means the Okanagan College Coyotes baseball team open their 2025 Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) season this weekend.
The squad opens the season with four games over three days at Elks Stadium in 琉璃神社, from March 21-23 against the Victoria Golden Tide.
Friday night, the opening game of the season, is Student Night at the ballpark, meaning all students who show their student ID get in for free. There's also prizes available to win.
First pitch on Friday night is at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the Coyotes and Golden Tide will face off twice, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The four-game weekend series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch at 11 a.m.
