Wind and rain couldn鈥檛 stop determined dragon boaters in Salmon Arm.
The Shuswap Dragon Boat Festival was held at Marine Peace Park Saturday, June 24, with races starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until around 2 p.m.
Teams from Vernon, Kamloops, 琉璃神社, and Penticton joined the three Salmon Arm teams at the wharf, battling choppy waves and heavy winds. Fellow boaters and spectators said conditions were difficult but applauded each other for a job well done in each race.
Women鈥檚 and mixed divisions race a 500-metre course on Shuswap Lake.
The festival is hosted by the Shuswap Rowing and Paddling Club, in partnership with the Penticton Dragon Boat Society.
The last race is scheduled to hit the water around 2 p.m., but morning races did begin a little later than scheduled.
Awards will be handed out around 3 p.m.
