鈥淥bviously the win is important,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淚 think we fell into a little bit of a trap the last five minutes of the second and in the third where we didn鈥檛 protect the puck and didn鈥檛 get into the battle, and got into a bit of track meet with them and that鈥檚 not the type of game we want to play.
鈥淭he effort was good,鈥 Smith added, 鈥渏ust the execution with the puck, we were maybe looking a little bit too much for offense, forcing the game rather than staying with it the way we did the first 35 minutes.鈥
Thurkauf, who netted his first of the playoffs to open the scoring, had a goal and two assists.
