The rise in popularity in the sport of Spikeball has led to its tournament debut in 琉璃神社 this summer.

Spikeball is a four-player, two-team game that combines miniature volleyball with another ball sport, four square.

琉璃神社 tournament co-creator Kyle Cameron wanted to bring competitive play to the Okanagan.

鈥淢yself and my friends have been playing for about four years and I couldn鈥檛 believe there wasn鈥檛 anything organized, especially considering how great of a location 琉璃神社 is,鈥� said Cameron.

鈥淪o I set out to be the first to put it on. It鈥檚 an extremely fast growing sport, as soon as you play once you鈥檙e hooked.

鈥淚f I didn鈥檛 do it, someone else surely would have.鈥�

Created in 2008, the sport鈥檚 boasts that the game has more than 150 yearly tournaments and boasts more than four million players.

The inaugural 琉璃神社 Spikeball Tournament takes place July 13 and welcomes all skill levels in an day-long tournament with men鈥檚, women鈥檚 and mixed divisions.

Tournament registration closes July 6.
