Stampede for tickets: Langford's B.C. Lions game sells out in 12 minutes

The Lions will take on Calgary Stampeders at Langford's Starlight Stadium on Victoria Day

Football fans wasted no time to snap up tickets for a B.C. Lions' pre-season game against the Calgary Stampeders at Langford's Starlight Stadium

Tickets sold out in 12 minutes after they went on sale to the general public on Tuesday (March 11).

鈥淔ollowing the success of Touchdown Pacific, which saw a sellout in under an hour, and our quick public sale for Langford, it鈥檚 evident the region is jacked up for B.C. Lions football,鈥 said Lions president Duane Vienneau in an online statement.

The Touchdown Pacific event in Victoria last year, which saw the Lions defeat Ottawa 38-12, drew a crowd of over 14,000 fans and an estimated $16 million boost for the region's economy.

It is anticipated the May 19 game will have the same effect for the Capital Regional District, Langford especially, said Mayor Scott Goodmanson speaking to the Goldstream Gazette at the announcement in February.

鈥淭his could not have come at a better time,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e really can't overemphasize how much of a benefit this could be to the local economy 鈥 it is a fantastic move for us.鈥

The B.C. Lions will touch down on Monday, May 19 at Langford鈥檚 Starlight Stadium, rounding off Victoria Day long weekend celebrations for their pre-season game against the Calgary Stampeders. Already confirmed for the starting lineup is Victoria-born star quarterback Nathan Rourke.
