Ahead of their home opener, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is honouring former teammate Owyn McInnis.
McInnis, who was on the men's volleyball team, died in a multi-vehicle crash in front of the university nearly a year ago, on Nov. 29, 2023, in the middle of the USPORTS season.
This year, the university has raised a flag on campus with McInnis' number 15 on it.
In his fourth year, McInnis was one of seven people, including teammates Owen Waterhouse and Riley Brinnen (both ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç natives) who were sent to hospital in the crash.
The crash took place at the intersection of McGill Road and University Drive and involved six vehicles, injuring 11.
The TRU men's team is 1-1 to start the year. They will have their home-opener this weekend (Nov. 1 and 2) at the Tournament Capital Centre, against the UBC Okanagan Heat.
On Thursday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, all proceeds from WolfPack apparel sold at the TRU bookstore will go toward the Owyn McInnis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
