The Vernon and District Funtastic Sports Society – which operates the annual Funtastic Slo-Pitch Tournament and A&W Music Festival each Canada Day long weekend – is now accepting applications for its Community Grant Program.

Western Canada's largest softball tournament and music festival is one of the region's top economic drivers every summer, and Funtastic turns that around by giving back to the community through the grant program.

"The mission of the Funtastic Sports Society is 'Building a Better Community through Sport,'" said society president Jamie Austin. "By hosting this annual event, we are dedicated to giving back to the community. Funds raised during the festival are allocated to local organizations through the Funtastic Community Grant Program."

Funtastic has donated more than $2.4 million since its inception in 1985, and more than $300,000 in financial support to local non-profit sport, recreation, and community organizations serving Greater Vernon since the community grant program started in 2009.

The program emphasizes projects that foster the growth of sport and recreation in the area.

"Funtastic is proud to support local sports organizations by offering grants that help cover essential costs such as equipment and capital expenses for various sports-related activities," said Austin.

Grant applications and specific criteria can be found on the Funtastic website . The deadline for applications is May 31.

"We invite the community to be part of this year’s event by registering a team, purchasing music tickets, volunteering, or becoming a sponsor," said Austin.

Funtastic runs June 27-30 at the Vernon Army Camp.
