Vernon hosts B.C.鈥檚 best youth hockey players

UMH 68 invitational tournament back for 2nd year with Jason Podollan

A chance to up their game with NHL alumni Jason Podollan has scored 68 youth a spot on the roster.

Podollan, of Vernon, is bringing back the Up My Hockey 68 for its second year.

The B.C. Invitational Tournament features the top 2010 and 2011 youth from across the province, forming four teams of 17 players.

鈥淔rom Fort St. John all the way to Port Alberni on the Island, it鈥檚 a great representation of the province,鈥 said Podollan.

Taking over Kal Tire Place North, the tournament runs June 6-9 and June 13-16 and is open to the public to see these future stars in action.

Each group kicks off the tournament with a welcome meeting with Podollan, practice with their coach, fitness testing and workshops on the Thursday, followed by more workshops and games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a little bit more than a tournament, I try to get these players educated and aware,鈥 said Podollan. 鈥淭hey get to know each other and get to know their coach.鈥

The 2011 players kick off the tournament this Thursday with several locals on the roster: Harlan Hesby, Trent Keenan, Jake Black, Nathan Sluggett, Benjamin Tyssen, Harrison Sharman and Nathan Johnson.

The 2010 players wrap up the tournament June 13-16 with locals: Alex Sharman, Otis Jacques, Wade Lightfoot, Gunner Podollan and Lucas Sievert.
