The Rutland Voodoos display their silver medals in the tier 2 division at the B.C. 7s high school boys rugby championships last weekend in Vancouver.

The Rutland Voodoos didn't know what to expect heading into the B.C. high rugby 7s championship, but when all was said and done were more than happy with the final result.

Competing in the tier 2 division last weekend at St. George's in Vancouver, the Rutland boys posted a 3-2 overall record, good enough for a silver medal finish.

"Silver medal was a fantastic accomplishment for our guys as we are a young team," said Rutland coach Patrick Allardyce.

Playing in a pool with four other teams, the Voodoos opened the provincial tournament with 19-12 loss to Earl Marriot 2.

In Game 2, the Voodoos rebounded with a 12-10 win over GW Graham, a ranked team in AA 15s.

Rutland finished off opening day with a solid effort and a 17-12 victory over Guildford Park. "Both teams had some serious speed to deal with but our Grade 9 speedster, Isaac Youngs held them in check," said Allardyce.

On Day 2, the Voodoos played Prince Wales for first in the pool a berth in the final.

In what was a very physical and, at times, chippy game, RSS was disciplined and came away with a 22-7 victory.

In the final, the Voodoos left it all on the pitch but came up short against RE Mountain 33-7.

"The boys played hard but RE was too good on the day," said Allardyce.

The silver medalist Voodoos are:

Grade 12—Connor Allardyce, Curtis Kilmartin, Elias Gerin and Travis Olencyuk.

Grade 11—Omar Kahl, Alfonso Asbrita and Emilio Bertacco.

Grade 10—Jonas Reupp, Quinn Allardyce

Grade 9—Issac Youngs, Jorge Von Zedlitz

Coaches— Patrick Allardyce and Teresa Jackson.
