The top of the BCHL’s Interior Conference faced off on Friday night as the West ÁðÁ§ÉñÉç Warriors travelled down Highway 97 to take on the Penticton Vees.

And unfortunately for the Warriors, they saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end as the Vees won 3-2 in overtime.

The Vees came out firing with 15 first period shots, including Larry Keenan’s that got past Warriors goaltender Rorke Applebee, making it 1-0 Penticton. Thomas Pichette and Matthew Biotti collected the assists on Keenan’s second goal of the season.

Early in the second period, Jack Pridham reached double digits as he scored his 10th goal of the campaign for the Warriors to tie the game. Trent Wilson and Callum Hughes added the assists.

It remained tied 1-1 until the 11:17 mark of the third period when Michael Salandra scored his ninth goal of the season to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

However, the lead was short-lived as Cade Littler scored a minute and a half later to tie the game once again.

Tied after 60 minutes, the game went to overtime.

In the extra frame, Vees forward Callum Arnott scored a between the legs goal on Applebee at the 7:25 mark of the period to give the Vees the 3-2 win.

Despite suffering the loss, Applebee was outstanding in net for the Warriors as the Vees peppered him with shots all night. In total, he made 40 saves.

Vees goaltender Andrew Ness made 24 saves in the win.

Penticton remains at the top of the Interior Conference with a 20-3-2-2 record, good enough for 44 points. The Warriors are right behind them with 39 points — a 18-6-3-0 record.

The two teams will do it all again on Saturday night as they finish the home-and-home weekend series in the final game before the winter break. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Royal LePage Place.
