A three-goal second period was the difference as the West 琉璃神社 Warriors offence came alive en route to a 5-1 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday night (Feb. 28).

Despite only six shots on goal in the first period, the Warriors opened the scoring when Elias Callgren put home his 12th goal of the season, unassisted, late in the frame.

However, 1:32 later, defenceman and 琉璃神社 Rockets prospect Ben MacBeath responded with this third goal of the year, assisted by Cole Cooksey and Riley Ashe.

After Kelsen Podworny scored his ninth goal of the campaign to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead, the team went onto take advantage of a couple Salmon Arm penalties. At the 12:44 mark, Ian Alonso doubled the lead with his ninth goal, helped by Callgren and Philip Monnich Hagen. Just under four minutes later, Joey Marcina made a memory he won't forget, scoring his first career BCHL to make it 4-1 Warriors. Caden Kemkaran-Humble and Sam LeDrew collected the assists on the powerplay marker.

Late in the third period, Callgren added his second goal on the game into the empty net to make it 5-1.

Edouard Gauthier was outstanding between the pipes for West 琉璃神社, making 37 saves in the win.

With the victory, the Warriors jumped back to seventh in the Interior Conference at 18-21-5-2. Salmon Arm remained fifth in the conference at 24-14-7-0.

The team returns home and welcomes the Nanaimo Clippers (22-19-4-0) to Royal LePage Place for a rare visit on Saturday, March 1. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
