The Chinese Canadian Pioneers Commemorative Signage was moved during a ceremony on Mar. 24 at 琉璃神社 City Park, honouring the Chinese Canadian community's contributions and history.

The ceremony was put on by OCCA Communities Association and the City of 琉璃神社.

鈥淲e are not just moving a sign today,鈥 said OCCA Executive Director Fei Liu during opening remarks. 鈥淲e are reaffirming our commitment to honouring our ancestors鈥 resilience and ensuring their stories continue to inspire future generations.鈥

The sign was originally installed in 2017 to help raise awareness of the challenges that early Chinese immigrants faced and the contributions they had in growing the city.

Cultural Advisor for the city, Joanne Taylor, also spoke at the event.  鈥淚 believe OCCA is making very positive changes in our shared community, particularly in supporting marginalized groups in overcoming systemic barriers,鈥 Taylor said. 鈥淎nd this is one of the opportunities that our organizations were able to work on in our mutual support of the relocation of the Chinese Canadian Pioneers Commemorative Signage in its intended permanent home."

The association extends its gratitude to the City of 琉璃神社, Central Okanagan Foundation, 琉璃神社 Museums Society, and all individuals who contributed to making the event a success.
